The 2012 Jeep Wrangler Engine Upgrade

Jeep is the oldest and arguably the most popular off-road vehicle brand in the world, and the Wrangler is Jeep’s current best-selling series. Over the past few years, Jeep Wrangler has provided adventure seekers with the best off-road features. The forthcoming 2012 Jeep Wrangler if promised to deliver more power and efficiency, thanks to the new Chrysler 3.6 liter Pentastar V6 engine. This new engine will replace the former 3.8 litre V6 engine, and it will be the main selling point of the new Wrangler. Sergio Marchionne, the President and CEO of Chrysler Group LLC, was the one who announced the news about the engine upgrade. The car will also be equipped with a five speed automatic transmission, replacing the former four speed automatic transmission. However, many reviewers consider that the change into a five speed automatic transmission is quite late since other automobile manufacturers have already equip their latest cars with seven and eight speed transmissions.  Before the announcement, the new Wrangler was expected to feature the same 3.8 liter engine that is used in the 2011 Grand Cherokee, which is able to deliver 202 horsepower and 237 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, the 3.6 liter Pentastar engine is able to generate 290 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.
Tedd Goyer, a spokesman for Jeep, said that the Pentastar engine is going to be the standard engine for all upcoming Chrysler-manufactured cars and that the four speed automatic transmission is going to be replaced with five speed automatic. The engine will also help to improve the fuel economy ratings of the car. The 2011 edition rated at 15 mpg (miles per gallon) in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. With the Pentastar, the rating will increase to 16 mpg city and 23 mpg highway. All Jeep lovers are definitely looking forward to experiencing the improved power and efficiency that the 2012 Jeep Wrangler has to offer. The fuel economy ratings are pretty economical hence users will be able to save on fuel.
