Honda has released a single teaser image of an upcoming concept car that signals the design direction of the upcoming 2012 CR-V crossover. Like most Honda concepts, the CR-V Concept is closer to a pre-production prototype rather than a full-on show car.

Although not a radical departure from today’s CR-V, the concept features a revised front end highlighted by a three-bar grille design. The lower portion of the front fascia is more stylized than the current car but wraps upward in order to offer better ground clearance. The concept’s blacked out headlights give the CUV a more aggressive look, but look for the road-going version of the CR-V to sport more conventional units.
Honda failed to release a picture of the car’s rear, but assures us that the CR-V’s vertical taillights remain intact for 2012. However, the tail lamps feature a more three-dimensional design, giving the rear end a
more distinct style.
The 2012 CR-V will also sport an all-new interior, but no further details were given.
Honda is also keeping mum on the car’s drivetrain, but says the 2012 CR-V will feature a more fuel efficient engine and will also lose a few pounds. The most fuel-efficient version of the current CR-V offers 28mpg, lagging behind some segment rivals.
The CR-V Concept will make its first public appearance at September’s Orange County International Auto Show, with the 2012 CR-V set to arrive on dealer lots by year’s end.
